PROF. NWAOZUZU, EEI Director, UNIPORT, Receives Time Africa Personality Award

Professor Chijioke Nwaozuzu, Director, EEI, University of Port Harcourt

The Director of Emerald Energy Institute for Petroleum, Energy Economics, Policy and Strategic Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Professor Chijioke Nwaozuzu, received the Time Africa Magazine Personality of the Year Award.

The award was presented by Chidi Peters Okorie, Publisher of the magazine, who stated that the award was presented on the grounds of merit and competence.

He explained how Professor Nwaozuzu was nominated in a social media voting process, emerging tops over and over again in 2019.

Okorie told the Professor on a lighter mood, “We would have been wondering if you solicited for those votes, had it not been that you were not even aware of the voting process.”

Continuing, he argued “We were impressed at the wave of votes in your favour, and particularly, by the comments made by some of these voters. One wondered why you won’t run for an elective position, in order to bring your wealth of knowledge and experience to hear on national development. We are therefore presenting this award because of the records you have set, and especially in the area of philanthropy and human capital development”.

In his response, the Professor expressed surprise about the voting and was elated that he received the award.

His words, “I have worked hard to obtain essential qualifications related to the global oil industry. My general objective is to ascend to the commanding heights of the national and international petroleum industry. To do less would mean betraying the training I have spent a considerable length of time to obtain”.
