As part of its strategic drive to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more affordable energy, NIPCO Gas Limited has successfully commissioned two state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri, Delta State. The landmark commissioning marks a major milestone in the nation’s push for energy diversification and sustainable mobility.
The commissioning ceremony, which drew key stakeholders from government and the private sector, was performed on behalf of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori, by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu.
In his remarks, Dr. Emu described the project as a timely and strategic intervention designed to cushion the impact of rising transportation costs following the removal of fuel subsidy. “The launch of these CNG stations provides our people with a credible alternative to petrol and diesel. It gives motorists, tricycle operators, and commercial transporters a cleaner, cheaper, and more efficient fueling option,” he stated.
He further assured that the Delta State Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for private sector investments in CNG infrastructure, vehicle conversion centers, and related support services to deepen adoption across the state.
Corroborating this position, the Honorable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, described the initiative as transformative for Delta State’s transport ecosystem. “This is a game-changer. With CNG, our transport operators can cut fuel costs significantly while reducing vehicular emissions. It is a win for commuters, a win for businesses, and a win for the environment,” he said.
Speaking for NIPCO Gas Limited, Chief Operating Officer ( COO ) , Sanjay Tarat reiterated the company’s unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s gas-based economy stressing that the Company has continued to invest in critical infrastructure and strategic partnerships to ensure that CNG becomes a mainstream fuel option nationwide.
“Our vision is to make clean energy accessible and affordable. Asaba and Warri are key hubs in our rollout plan, and we are proud to partner with the Delta State Government to bring this vision to life,” Tarat declared
Providing technical insights, Projects Manager Mr. Victor Attah disclosed that the newly commissioned facilities in Asaba and Warri have a combined capacity to serve over 2,000 motorists and tricycle operators daily.
He explained that the stations are equipped with modern dispensing technology to ensure safety, speed, and reliability.
Beyond fuel accessibility, Attah emphasized that the facilities will contribute significantly to lowering carbon emissions and improving air quality in the host cities.
The commissioning was rounded off with a live demonstration of CNG dispensing into vehicles, which showcased the safety, efficiency, and practicality of the technology to guests and transport operators present.
The event also featured an interactive session where stakeholders discussed opportunities for fleet conversion, maintenance support, and financing models to accelerate uptake.
Aligned with the Federal Government’s Presidential CNG Initiative, the Asaba and Warri stations represent the first phase of a broader rollout planned for Delta State and the wider South-South region.
The project is expected to stimulate job creation, reduce transport costs, and position the state as a pacesetter in sustainable mobility.
NIPCO Gas Limited extended its appreciation to the Delta State Government, regulatory agencies, host communities, and all partners whose collaboration was instrumental to the successful delivery of the project.
