After nearly 15 years of inadequate electricity supply, Rigasa community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State is set for improved power access following the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited’s (NDPHC) commitment to deliver critical electricity infrastructure.
The project, facilitated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), comprises a 2-kilometre 11kV line, a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation to strengthen distribution and improve electricity access for residents and businesses.
The project reached a major milestone on Friday, October 23, 2026, with a groundbreaking ceremony performed by Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who represented Governor Uba Sani. She commended NDPHC for the intervention, describing it as a life-saving initiative that would ease the community’s longstanding electricity challenges.
The intervention followed sustained advocacy by BAT-IG Convener, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, who repeatedly presented the community’s plight to NDPHC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, culminating in the company’s commitment to the project.
Speaking through the Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, the MD/CEO reaffirmed NDPHC’s commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of improved electricity supply nationwide. She explained that although the company primarily generates power, its interventions span generation, transmission and distribution to address infrastructure gaps and expand electricity access.
She described the Rigasa project as a worthwhile investment that would alleviate residents’ hardship and demonstrate the impact of targeted infrastructure development.
In his vote of thanks, the Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, appreciated the Kaduna State Government and community for their cooperation and support.
The District Head of Rigasa, Hakimi Arc. Mohammed Aminu Idris, also commended NDPHC’s management for its commitment to expanding electricity access. Other dignitaries included Senator Shehu Sani and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, alongside government officials, industry stakeholders and community representatives.
NDPHC General Manager, Distribution, Engr. Dahiru Muritala Mohammed, whose department owns the project, was also present at the ceremony.
The Rigasa project underscores NDPHC’s commitment to extending critical power infrastructure beyond generation to bridge electricity gaps, stimulate socioeconomic development and improve quality of life in underserved communities across Nigeria.
