FG responds to TI Corruption Rating

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture

The Federal Government released facts which it says were missing in Transparency International (TI) current report. It says through the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, that the corruption perception index report that places Nigeria low and insist that the low rating of the country did not truly reflect achievements made by Nigeria and its fight against corruption.

The Minister assured that the Federal Government will continue in its anti-corruption drive especially putting measures and building integrity system with high profile corruption cases currently under investigation and prosecution.

Lai Mohammmed maintained that the Federal Government is interrogating a number of issues and discrepancies which were observed in the rating process including some data sources in which Nigeria scores remain flat over the past ten years without any improvement, decline or fluctuations.

He said the emphasis on preventative mechanism is a response to various local and international views in evaluation that Nigeria has gone through including those from the United Nations convention against corruption.
