UGHAMADU RECEIVES NAEC AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Ndu Ughamadu, Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian oil and gas industry over the years, especially as a leading correspondent, analyst and image-maker, Ndu Ughamadu, the Group General Manager, Public Affairs, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been given an award of excellence by the National Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC).

The award, which was presented at NAEC’s recent annual conference and awards event, had several dignitaries within and outside the oil and gas industry in attendance.

Ughamadu a Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Nigerian Guild of Editors. He holds a BSc and an MSc in Economics, as well as postgraduate diploma in Mass Communications and an LLB, all from the University of Lagos. He also has a BL from the Nigerian Law School, a certificate in Petroleum Studies, from the University of Ibadan, as well as an MBA in Public Relations and Advertising.

Ughamadu resigned his lucrative job as Economic Analyst in an international company to join the newly created economic news unit of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in 1983.

In 1984, he became a specialised journalist in Daily Times based on recommendation from Prince Tony Momoh, the General Manager of Daily Times publication.

He served at various capacities as Energy Editor, Group Business Editor, Chief Economist and Chairman Editorial Board.

Ughamadu’s outstanding performance at all levels earned him recognition from the Federal Government that made him a member of Nigeria’s delegation to many international petroleum events. He had received several letters of commendation from many past petroleum ministers.

He is a founding member of the National Association of Energy Correspondents, NAEC, and served on the first national executive council of the association, received several prestigious awards from the management of Daily Times of Nigeria for editing.

Ughamadu’s display of intelligence in Daily Times spurred Dr. Jackson Gaius Obaseki to approached him to join NNPC as its spokesman and General Manager of its group public affairs division.

In 2003, Ughamadu extended his quality service to various entities also holding the position of a spokesman to the president elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Also, in 2016, the management of NNPC re-invited him to join the corporation after a short period of disengagement.

He is indeed a renowned personality in energy palace, his immense and profound contributions to energy reporting in Nigeria cannot be exhausted. This earned him a deserved honour in NAEC 2019 conference and awards.
