The Committee included representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines; the Petroleum Commission of The Gambia; the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation; the Geological Department; the Office of the President; the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs; the National Environment Agency; the Gambia Revenue Authority; the Gambia Maritime Authority; and the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency.

The Petroleum Commission of The Gambia is an independent regulatory body established under the Petroleum Commission Act 2021 to regulate, manage, and oversee petroleum operations in The Gambia efficiently and in a manner consistent with the national interest. The Commission’s mandate encompasses licence administration, regulatory oversight, data management, and the promotion of responsible investment in The Gambia’s upstream petroleum sector.
The Commission coordinates the country’s national petroleum data room and leads the licensing and pre-qualification processes for the award of petroleum exploration and production rights.
The Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines is the principal Government ministry responsible for formulating and implementing policy in the petroleum, energy, and mining sectors of The Gambia. The Ministry represents the Government of The Gambia in strategic petroleum agreements, including the granting of Petroleum Exploration, Development and Production Licence Agreements pursuant to the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act 2004.
