TCN says it Decreases Power Allocation to Discos over Gas Shortage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN says the decreasing allocation of power to distribution companies and load centres nationwide, was as a result of low generation occasioned by gas constraints.

TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, lamented that the shortage of gas supply to generation companies has impacted on the availability of electricity to Discos, as the company can only transmit what is generated.

Mbah in a statement sighted by our correspondent in Port Harcourt, however, assured that TCN was synergizing with stakeholders to resolve the issue of gas and to the keep the national grid intact.

TCN further assured of commitment to ensuring a gradual increase in electricity supply to discos and load centers, whenever gas improves to power available thermal plants.

The statement reads, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN hereby announces that there has been a gradual decrease in available generation into the grid due to gas constraints to the thermal generating companies, which has impacted the quantum of bulk power available on the transmission grid for onward transmission to the distribution load centers nationwide.

“TCN is doing everything possible in collaboration with stakeholders in the power sector to ensure that it continues to keep the grid intact in spite of the current low power generated into the system.

“Consequent upon the current load on the grid, load distributed to the distribution load centres have also reduced, as TCN can only transmit what is generated.

“Please bear with us as we continue to work with the stakeholders in the value chain to ensure that supply through distribution companies to electricity consumers nationwide improves,” TCN said.
