Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has been named major oil company of the year by Energy Times in recognition of its significant contributions to deep-water oil and gas development. Additionally, its former managing director Elohor Aiboni was honoured as amazon of Nigeria’s oil sector for 2024.
The awards were presented during a ceremony attended by key stakeholders in the oil and gas industry. SNEPCo’s senior operations manager Bolanle Odunayo-Ojo accepted the awards on behalf of the company and its managing director Ronald Adams.
“We are honoured to receive these recognitions for both the company and our former managing director, as they underscore our dedication to excellence in the upstream sector,” said Odunayo-Ojo. “These achievements result from teamwork and support by our partners, particularly the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and regulatory agencies. The awards encourage us to continue working together to power progress and innovation in Nigeria’s energy landscape.”
SNEPCo has been a trailblazer in Nigeria’s deep-water oil and gas sector, starting with the production from Bonga in 2005—the country’s first deep-water well. The company has since achieved significant milestones, including the production of its 1 billionth barrel of oil from Bonga in February 2023 and the final investment decision on the $5 billion Bonga North project, aimed at sustaining deep-water oil production in Nigeria. Gas from Bonga is also piped to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) at Bonny Island, further contributing to Nigeria’s energy value chain.
Organisers of the award said the recognition of Elohor Aiboni as amazon of Nigeria’s oil sector highlights her illustrious career within and outside Nigeria. Appointed as managing director of SNEPCo in 2021, Aiboni spearheaded initiatives that improved operational efficiency, enhanced local content development, and expanded social investment projects across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Now on an international assignment in Brunei, Aiboni’s leadership continues to inspire excellence in the energy sector.
The board of directors of Energy Times lauded SNEPCo’s and Aiboni’s achievements, particularly the company’s role in maintaining Nigeria’s leadership in deep-water oil production and innovation.
