Dozens of families affected by the 2022 floods in ONELGA and Ahoada East local government areas are now smiling again after they received food stuff worth over N1.5 million donated to them by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi.

The response is coming after some flood victims in these LGAs have cried out of hardship since after the flood ravaged their farmlands.

President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom, Rtn Chris Ugechi said the gesture is to ameliorate the sufferings of the people even as the Naira crunch bites harder.

“These bags of rice, Tubers of yam, groundnut oil and packet tomatoes are personal donations from the club, in partnership with the FCMB Bank to ease the suffering of families devastated by the flood in these areas. This is a token from our hearts to reach at least forty households in these regions”.

On his part Chair, Flood Relief Support Committee of the Club, Past Assistant Governor, Emeka Anyaso, while handing over the food items to the Oba of Ogbaland, represented by the Traditional Prime Minister, HRH Louis Ajie, Eze Iyasira of Ogbaland and Eze Ekpeye Logbo the third, His Imperial Majesty, Eze Kelvin Anugwo, respectively in their palaces, said, Rotary as a Service and Humanitarian organization, is proud to identify with the people to improve their welfare.

“Rotary cares for the World. One of our objectives is to make the world a better place, and we can’t achieve that when the people are hungry. The world cannot accommodate us if we have so many hungry and we are very few feeding well. So we decided to come and provide some succor to the number of families we can reach out”.

In their separate responses, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ogbaland, HRH Louis Ajie, who represented Oba of Ogbaland, and Eze Ekpeye Logbo the third, His Imperial Majesty Kelvin Anugwo commended the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom for the gesture.

“Rotary remembering us when our people are crying and coming to wipe our tears can’t be compared with. There are twenty seven communities in Omoku, farmlands and houses were wiped off by the ravaging floods, families were left hungry until your intervention. Thank you Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom and the FCMB Bank, we are really grateful”, the Oba of Ogbaland representative happily said.

“it was a terrifying moment when the flood swept through one hundred and three communities in Ekpeye Kingdom. We are very happy that members of your club which I belong to, made donations in partnership with the FCMB bank to give back life to families who are still struggling to cope even after the flood. May God replenish your purses,” the Ekpeye King said.

Our correspondent reports that in Ahoada East, the 2022 flood committee Chair in that area jointly received the flood relief items from members of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Rebisi Kingdom alongside the Assistant Governor of the club, zone twenty-six, Moses Egorerua.
