Industry Players move to Boost Gas in Southeast

-By Victoria Opeyemi

Experts converged in South east of Nigeria in order to ensure steady supply of gas and create viable opportunities for infrastructure.

Speaking at the gas conference that was co-organised by the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria Limited (GACN), Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma said, “Millions of dollars have been spent in extracting and evacuating natural gas and we have to consider secondary transmission.”

Participants are of the view that there is a lot of opportunities for players in the industry to take advantage in the sector.

Growth in South east part of Nigeria has been limited for lack of reliable and affordable power.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Chief Timipre Sylva, was of the view that government is working with the industry to diversify the country’s economy.

In his words, “We are now saying we want to use gas to drive our cars, we want to use gas to run our generators and in addition to that to produce methylene from gas and from methylene, develop a whole factory and industries built to improve supply.”

GACN is looking at ways in boosting gas utilization in South east and hope that the government will rise up to the occasion. The region is commercially viable with natural gas reserve.
