Digital Revolution in Energy Enhances Efficiency, Greater Safety- Yusuf

Speaking at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) conference, Chairman, Mr. Yunus Yusuf was of the opinion that for decades, the oil and gas sector has been the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, fueling industrial growth and providing livelihoods to millions.

According to him, as the country advance further into the 21st century, this vital sector faces an unprecedented transformation — one propelled by digital technology.

The term “digital evolution” is far more than a catchphrase; it represents a fundamental shift in how energy is produced, managed, and delivered. From artificial intelligence and machine learning enhancing exploration and drilling, to big data analytics enabling predictive maintenance and risk mitigation, digital technologies are revolutionising every aspect of oil and gas operations.

Yusuf told professionals that their leadership and expertise are pivotal to transformation. “By embracing digital innovation, we can optimize operations, improve safety, cut costs, and promote environmental stewardship.”

“To the students and future industry leaders here today, you embody the future workforce.

I encourage you to cultivate digital skills and innovative thinking as you prepare to shape this dynamic industry.”

The NAN-NUJ Chairman told the youths that their creativity and adaptability will be key to Nigeria’s energy future.

“To our security personnel, your role remains indispensable in protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted operations.

The digital era brings fresh security challenges, including cybersecurity threats. The vigilance is crucial to safeguarding energy assets and national security.”

He told journalists that their responsibility has been greater and serves as vital link between industry, government and the public.

It is incumbent for journalists to report technological advances with accuracy and integrity, educate the populace on their implications, and hold all stakeholders accountable.

“Through our work, we foster transparency, trust, and informed public discourse.”

The digital revolution in energy promises enhanced efficiency, greater safety, and reduced environmental impact.

It enables real-time decisions, streamlines supply chains, and opens avenues for innovation. For Nigeria, adopting these technologies is not merely an opportunity—it is an imperative to remain competitive globally and ensure economic resilience in a rapidly changing world.

Yusuf said transformation comes with challenges and demands robust infrastructure, skilled human capital, forward-thinking regulation, and unwavering commitment to ethical governance.

He called for innovation and collaboration.

“Together, let us explore how digital tools can drive sustainable energy, empower communities, and redefine the future of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.”

Yusuf urged stakeholders, government, industry players, media, civil society, and security agencies to unite in journey of transformation.

“United, we can harness the power of digital technology to build a more efficient, transparent, and sustainable energy future for Nigeria.”
