The Group General Manager of Continental Hotels, Karl Hala, has emphasized the importance of showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

Speaking at the Business Day Tourism Conference, Karl highlighted the country’s potential to attract tourists from around the world. “Our biggest barrier isn’t insecurity. It’s not infrastructure. It’s perception,” he said.

Hala’s speech was a call to action for Nigerians to take pride in their cultural heritage and to work towards promoting the country’s tourism potential.

He emphasized the importance of investing in experiences, not just buildings, and called for better roads, airports, policies, and competitive VISA regulations.

According to him., the conference provided a platform for stakeholders in the tourism industry to discuss ways of promoting Nigeria’s tourism potential even as his speech  resonated with the audience.

Karl  also highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s youth in driving the tourism industry. “Over 60% of our population is under 25. That’s not a statistic — it’s an army of dreamers, doers, coders, chefs, guides, entrepreneurs, artists,” he said.

The Group General Manager who highlighted the importance of inclusive tourism models that benefit local communities ,  suggested community-owned lodges, local guides trained in eco-tourism, and cultural festivals marketed globally.

The conference was attended by distinguished guests, partners, colleagues, and passionate believers in Nigeria’s potential. Hala’s speech was a testament to the growing interest in Nigeria’s tourism industry and the potential for growth and development in the sector.

He averred that tourism industry has the potential to create jobs, generate revenue, and promote cultural exchange adding that with the right policies and investments, Nigeria’s tourism industry can thrive and contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
