The Emmanuel Egbogah Foundation (EEF) cordially invites policymakers, industry leaders, regulators, investors, academics, development partners, professionals, students, the media, and the general public to the 15th Emmanuel Egbogah Legacy Lecture Series (EELS), its flagship annual platform for informed dialogue on petroleum, energy, governance, institutional development, and national prosperity.
2026 Lecture Theme
The Expanding Role of Upstream Independents in Nigeria: Implications for Petroleum Sector Development and National Value Creation
Nigeria’s upstream petroleum industry is undergoing one of the most significant structural transformations in its history. The divestment of assets by International Oil Companies (IOCs), the emergence of indigenous upstream independent companies as major operators, and the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) have fundamentally reshaped the landscape of petroleum exploration and production. The 15th Emmanuel Egbogah Legacy Lecture Series (EELS) will critically examine the evolving role of upstream independents and explore the institutional, policy, fiscal, and investment imperatives required to translate this transformation into sustainable petroleum sector development and enduring national value creation.
Panel Dialogue
From Asset Acquisition to National Value Creation: How Can Nigeria’s Upstream Independents Sustain Investment, Enhance Production, and Deliver Greater Public Value?
The emergence of upstream independents as dominant players in Nigeria’s onshore and shallow-water petroleum sector represents one of the most significant structural shifts in the industry’s history. While indigenous ownership has expanded, the critical challenge is whether this transition will catalyse sustained investment, higher production, stronger governance, and greater public value. This panel brings together industry leaders, policymakers, regulators, investors, and academics to explore the strategies and enabling environment needed to transform asset acquisition into lasting national prosperity.
