…This year’s edition of the training programme will kick off later this month and will involve over 90 journalists.
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) organised capacity building programme for the Nigerian Association of Energy Correspondents (NAEC).
General Manager, Corporate Affairs of CNL, Olusoga Oduselu, said the company was delighted with the opportunity of the training for media stakeholders to gain the required skills and knowledge to continue to discharge their journalism duties especially in the oil and gas industry.
CNL deeply appreciated the role of the media, especially NAEC, as a trusted source of information and as an important partner in promoting transparency, accountability, and informed dialogue on issues that impact the nation and industry.
Oduselu noted that CNL recognized the complexity of the energy sector and appreciated the professionalism and balanced perspectives correspondents bring to reporting industry developments.
“Your contributions help deepen public understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing our sector.”
“At Chevron, we believe strong relationships are built on trust, mutual respect, and continuous engagement. This conviction underpins our longstanding partnership with the Nigerian media community.”
“As part of our commitment to media excellence, Chevron continues to invest in capacity-building initiatives for journalists. Through the Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills (AWARES) Programme, delivered in partnership with Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, we have supported the professional development of media practitioners across the country. Since its inception in 2014, over 120 journalists have benefited from the programme. In addition, we have trained more than 310 journalists in Lagos, Asaba, and Abuja over the last three years through our media capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). This year’s edition of the training programme will kick off later this month and will involve over 90 journalists.”
Oduselu added that beyond business operations, Chevron remains committed to creating lasting value in Nigeria. The company supports Nigerian Content development through employment opportunities, local contracting, supplier development, and investments that contribute to national growth and economic empowerment.
The company is equally committed to sustainable community development.
CNL also contribute to the sustainable development of communities where it operates. The Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), a community-led participatory partnership model for community engagement and sustainable development was pioneered by CNL in 2005.
Currently, according to Oduselu, the company is working with relevant government and community stakeholders to transit to the Host Community Development Trusts under the Petroleum Industry Act.
“We have registered some HCDTs in our areas of operation and contributing significant amount of money to the HCDTs to execute development projects and programmes in the communities. Also, through Chevron’s Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), we are impacting hundreds of lives in the Niger Delta and supporting economic empowerment in the region.”
CNL sees Nigeria and Africa as core growth markets, with investments in gas, deepwater oil, and integrated infrastructure.
As a major energy producer, CNL is focused on safely delivering the affordable, reliable, and ever-cleaner energy needed to power progress. We remain a leading contributor to Nigeria’s domestic gas supply and continue to invest in projects that support energy security, lower emissions, and reduce gas flaring.
The company’s approach is guided by a commitment to operational excellence, partnership, innovation, and responsible business practices. We are focused on creating value for our stakeholders while contributing to Nigeria’s economic and social development.
