The Emmanuel Egbogah Foundation (EEF) was established in 2019 in honour of Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah. The Foundation is aimed at promoting his legacy anchored on the principle of prosperity for posterity.
The focus area of EEF lies in human capital and skill-set development for the petroleum and energy sector in Nigeria.
Speaking during his Welcome Address, Professor Joseph Ajeinka, Emeritus Professor and Emmanuel Egbogah Chair for Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), gave vivid account of the legacy series.
According to Ajeinka, when the legacy lecture started, Dr. Egbogah personally gave the legacy lectures for some years to set the tone for the quality of legacy lecture series. He also contributed immensely to the development of Uniport particularly the Emerald Energy Institute (EEI). Apart from Uniport, Dr. Egbogah invested so much of his resources in higher education in Bells University, University of Ibadan, Nnamdi Azikiwe University among others where he built edifice and structures.
When Dr. Egbogah passed on in 2018, EEF was set up to continue the propagation of his legacy.
“I’m glad that today is the 15th edition of the Emmanuel Egbogah Legacy Lecture Series (EELLS).”
Ajeinka stated further to captains of industry and operators that the time has come to transform the legacy lecture series to a platform or a project for the advancement of Uniport and higher education in general.
The legacy lecture series gives room for discussions involving petroleum and energy policy issues, economics, management of the oil and gas industry.
He urged the university to take the advantage of establishing a policy institute to focus on the oil and gas industry. He said public policy that will include policies on education among other vital issues.
“My suggestion to the university would be that the time has come to transform this legacy lecture series to a project.”
Ajeinka thanked Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) that has been in partnership with EEF to organise lecture series.
“I will particularly thank TotalEnergies. If TotalEnergies had not established the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS) which in itself is a legacy project, perhaps what we are experiencing today will not happen.”
The multinational needs to take a lot of credit for what is happening in the industry and higher education space. The Chairman of the 15th EELLS, Engr. Alek Musa, was one of the founders of IPS and also a former Deputy Managing Director at TotalEnergies.
