‎NLNG Outlines Artificial Intelligence Strategy for Operations

Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced its plan to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its operations to drive efficiency and strengthen its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Goal Zero aspirations.

The company’s deputy managing director, Olakunle Osobu, disclosed this on Wednesday during a panel session titled “Operational Excellence through the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technologies” at the 2025 Gastech Exhibition and Conference in Milan, Italy.

Mr Osobu said AI is now a key driver of efficiency, reliability and sustainability in the energy sector.

“Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of tomorrow; it is today’s driver of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the energy sector. At NLNG, we’re embedding AI across our value chain to ensure our business is future-ready. Importantly, our ‘Goal Zero’ safety policy and operational efficiency targets are being significantly enhanced by AI. This has led to the improvement of our safety and business performance across the company’s entire value chain,” he said.

According to him, AI is helping the company manage complex processes while reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement.

He noted that virtual reality tools and AI agents are being deployed to speed up staff onboarding and improve knowledge retention.

Smart cameras and satellite technologies, he added, are providing advanced visual analytics for monitoring operations and safety compliance.

Osobu explained that process automation and predictive maintenance tools are enabling production and asset reliability, while AI-driven optimisation is enhancing emissions monitoring to support NLNG’s energy transition commitments.

He also stressed that integrating AI into existing platforms is the first step in unlocking predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.

He said NLNG is also investing in upskilling staff through its centre of excellence to ensure AI adoption is aligned with business needs.

The company said its participation at Gastech 2025 reflects its strategy to adopt innovation and technology in line with global efforts for cleaner and more secure energy solutions.
