The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has called on Nigerian youths to take advantage of the board’s skill capacity development programmes across the country to make them self reliant in a fast changing economic environment.
Engineer Abayomi Bamidele, who is a Director in the Capacity Development Directorate at the NCDMB gave the advise in lagos through John Barigha who represented him at the graduation ceremony while giving his keynote address at the graduation ceremony organised for 250 young graduands after the successful completion of a 3-week high selling, self-reliance skills training programme where participants were taken on different areas of skill acquisition and capacity building. Engineer Bamidele who was represented at the event noted that one of the critical mandate of the NCDMB is structured around youth development, a mandate he said remains at the heart of the executive secretary of the NCDMB, Engineer Felix Ogbue.
Abayomi Bamidele in his further remarks urged participants to use the knowledge gained during the skills training to improve their well-being, noting that skill acquisition over time has proved to be a viable source of income for families. While advising participants not to trade-off their starter packs, said reports have also shown that individuals who have effectively explored knowledge gained during such trainings in the past could potentially make a living higher in terms of revenue when compared to earnings by those in white-collar paid employment.
Engr. Bamidele In his concluding remarks noted that the NCDMB in furtherance to advancing capacity development for youths across the country in line with the philosophy of the current administration under President Bola Tinubu to empower the average Nigerian youth with requisite skills is already taking application from another set of youths with engineering background who are 35 years and below for skill acquisition training that would equip them with relevant skills that would place them at advantage to work in the oil and gas sector. Bamidele called on prospective applicants to visit the board’s website for details of the latest training.
In her opening speech at the event, Chief executive officer, and programme coordinator, Jake Riley academy, the executor of the training on behalf of the NCDMB, Funmi Ogbue said the skill acquisition programme is a significant milestone for Nigerian local content development agenda, declaring that the program recognises the place of the average youth as future builders who must be equipped to prepare them for this future and very important role.
Ogbue who noted that the participants were selected through a rigorous and competitive process said the 250 participants were taken through various aspects of skill development training which include, business development skills, digital marketing/social media patterns, financial literacy, sola panel installation, textile making, catering and food business including corporate business models, amongst other areas of learning.
Ogbue also took out time to advise the graduands to be morally upright as they move out into the market world to advance their business careers, noting that knowledge without morals can mar growth of beneficiaries.
Two beneficiaries of the three weeks skill acquisition training, adenike arewulo and chinemerem amadi while speaking with energynewsstream.com shortly after receiving their starter packs thanked the NCDMB for the opportunity and expressed satisfaction with the knowledge gained. The two beneficiaries also noted that the knowledge gained would be used to advance their business ideas with the aim of building a self reliant career, without necessarily seeking white-collar jobs.
