Governor Soludo Empowers Youths in Awka North and South under One-Youth-Two-Skills Plus Programme

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has commenced the disbursement of funds to participants in the One-Youth-Two-Skills Plus scheme in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Areas, aimed at enhancing their businesses.

The youths in Awka North LGA, under the supervision of the Managing Director of the Anambra State Social and Civic Reformation Office, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife, received their empowerment funds at an event held in Achalla.

In Awka South LGA, the exercise was coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Mr. Emeka Omata,who admonished the beneficiaries to effectively utilise the funds to their advantage and also to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills in career development.

Among them were Mrs. Nkechi Menkiti, trained in bakery and confectionery, who received N380,000; Nkemjika Udegbunam, trained in rice farming and processing, who received N350,000; and Ejike Olutum, who attained skills in rice farming and processing, got N350,000.

The beneficiaries in Awka South LGA include Chimaoge Enekwechi from Nise, Antonia Onyemobi from Imo State, and Chisom Onyekwuba, all of whom have used their skills acquired to establish businesses and create wealth for other indigenes.

The disbursement follows Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s approval of a N3.5 billion startup grant for over 8,300 beneficiaries of the empowerment programme, announced during their graduation ceremony last month.

In light of this, the State’s Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, commended the governor’s efforts in actualising the project and its transformational impact. Also, the Chairman of the scheme, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, reported a 48 percent increase in participation and suggested the programme as a model for scholars and Anambra youths.

The training programmes for innovation in Anambra under the governor’s tentacle include the ‘One-Youth-Two-Skill programme, Code Anambra, a training scheme for skills acquisition, and the ‘One Million Digital Tribe’ for digital training, where graduates of the various schemes were rewarded with employment opportunities and with laptops to enhance their skills.
