AEW: Wale Tinubu Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Wale Tinubu, Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Africa’s energy sector and his visionary leadership in building one of the continent’s foremost integrated energy companies.

The award, regarded as one of the highest honours at AEW, is reserved for leaders whose careers have had a lasting impact on Africa’s oil, gas, and energy industries.

The African Energy Chamber praised Tinubu for his “dedication to advancing Africa’s energy security, his bold leadership in navigating Oando through periods of uncertainty and transformation, and his pivotal role in demonstrating the power of indigenous companies in driving industrial growth and energy sovereignty across the continent.”

Past recipients of AEW’s top honours include Professor Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank (2024), the late President Hage Geingob of Namibia, Former Senegalese President Macky Sall (2023), and Congo’s Hydrocarbons Minister Bruno Jean Richard Itoua (2022).

Tinubu now joins this distinguished list of continental trailblazers, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential corporate leaders.

From Oando’s modest beginnings as a local downstream operator, Tinubu has led its transformation into a multinational energy player with a diversified portfolio spanning exploration and production, power, and renewables. Under his leadership, Oando has become a symbol of African ambition, ingenuity, and resilience, inspiring a new generation of leaders across the continent.

Described as a firm believer in the power of vision, determination, and teamwork, Tinubu has consistently championed Africa’s right to chart its own energy destiny by harnessing its abundant resources for the benefit of its people.

The Lifetime Achievement Award at AEW is considered a benchmark of excellence, celebrating leaders whose impact extends beyond corporate success to shaping the very narrative of Africa’s industrial and energy independence.

For Tinubu, the honour is more than a personal milestone — it is a recognition of Africa’s potential and a call to inspire future leaders.

“Tinubu’s recognition is a fitting and well-deserved tribute to a leader who has consistently inspired others to believe in the promise of Africa and the power of its people,” the Chamber said.
