…Urges residents to embrace approved waste disposal channels
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced the evacuation of accumulated waste at the Cele Bus Stop, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said on Friday that the Authority responded promptly by deploying its intervention team to commence the evacuation as the immediate priority was to restore the affected location to an acceptable environmental condition.
He explained that the intervention was part of LAWMA’s sustained efforts to clear identified waste black spots across the State, while addressing the factors responsible for their recurrence.
Gbadegesin said that the Authority would continue to intensify monitoring of identified black spots and deploy appropriate operational resources to locations requiring urgent intervention.
He urged residents, traders, motorists and other users of the Cele axis to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal, adding that the recurrence of waste heaps at cleared locations undermined ongoing efforts to achieve a cleaner Lagos.
The LAWMA boss urged residents and businesses in the area to embrace approved waste disposal channels and make use of accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for the proper disposal of their waste.
He said that the Authority would sustain monitoring of the location after the evacuation to discourage fresh dumping and ensure that the gains of the intervention were maintained.
Gbadegesin reiterated LAWMA’s commitment to responding promptly to waste management challenges across Lagos, while urging residents to support the Authority by adopting responsible waste disposal practices and reporting emerging black spots through its established channels.
