Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) is committed to supporting the mission of protecting and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters by developing indigenous maritime capability.
SEEPCO has introduced SSV KALI 3 a next-generation security support vessel designed and built in Delta State, Nigeria, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.
For generations, the Nigerian Navy has stood as a steadfast guardian of Nigeria seas, protecting the country waters and safeguarding the nation’s interests at sea.
The Kali 3 design is developed under Bureau Veritas rules and regulation. Its structural integrity has been verified through Bureau Veritas classification approved design. The vessels are designed to comply with solas, mapul, and relevant IMO standards.
Kali 3 is built for extended operation with an operational autonomy of approximately 10 to 12 days. The vessel can remain at sea with onboard provisions, fuel, and maintenance capacity.
The vessel is designed to operate in sea area. Its navigation and communication systems include DGPS, GPS Compass, Zander Radar, and RS for long-range communication and maritime safety.
SEEPCO’s Kali 3 is equipped with EMASANTCON satellite communications, MF/HF, TSE Class A Radio, VHF DSC Radio, EPROB, and SRT. These systems support safe navigation and provide continuous awareness of surrounding maritime activity. They also enable reliable communication over extended operating distancing with a load drop of approximately 2.5 meters.
Kali 3 can operate in shallow waters and creeks. The vessel is equipped with RAHIP to support rapid boating operations. Its high-speed capability also allows it to respond quickly to suspicious vessels and maritime security incidents.
SSV KALI 3 has been developed for maritime security and escort operations, expertly designed to support the protection of crude oil tankers, LNG carriers, and offshore supply vessels operating across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Operational capability is supported by a design that also considers crew welfare, the accommodation areas are air-conditioned with noise and vibration insulation to provide a more suitable environment during extended operation.
Economic bunks with safety struts provide secure sleeping arrangements. The vessel also provides meds and gully facilities, freshwater production, and laundry facilities. Modern showers and toilets are provided, together with secure personal lockers for the crew. A dedicated sewage treatment plant is incorporated in compliance with marpul requirements.
At the heart of KALI 3 is a commitment to building Nigerian capability. The vessel was developed through international marine engineering expertise and built at the HM Shipyard in Delta State in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy.
Its construction demonstrates the growing ability to undertake advanced maritime projects within Nigeria.
It also reflects the value of sustained cooperation between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian maritime industry. SSV KALI 3 is designed to support the protection of critical maritime and energy infrastructure. It provides a platform for security operations along coastal routes and offshore areas where rapid response is essential.
Today, KALI 3 moves from the shipyard into subsurface. It represents a significant development in Nigeria’s maritime security capability, it also marks another step in the growth of indigenous shipbuilding in Nigeria, SSV KALI 3 built in Nigeria, ready for the maritime mission.
