WEOG Commences Countdown to World Decarbonization Summit 2026 at Lufasi Nature Park, Lagos

The Women in Energy, Oil and Gas (WEOG) has commenced its public awareness campaign ahead of World Decarbonization Day (WDD) 2026, with a media engagement held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Lufasi Nature Park, Lekki, Lagos.

The engagement was organised to formally announce the forthcoming World Decarbonization Day to members of the press and highlight the importance of collective action in advancing decarbonization, environmental sustainability and climate action.

World Decarbonization Day 2026 is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The 2026 edition is themed:

“Accelerating Decarbonization Through Collaboration, Innovation and Sustainable Climate Action.”

The Chairperson of WDD 2026, Engr. Toyin Alozie, has continued to champion the success of the event and encourage strong stakeholder participation and attendance as WEOG builds momentum towards the September 3 celebration.

At the media engagement, Dr. Toyin Yusuf, Vice President, Services, WEOG, represented the Lagos State Coordinator and joined other members of the WDD 2026 team in communicating the significance of the forthcoming event.

Also in attendance was Barr. Oritsematosan Edodo, Treasurer, alongside Dr. Chizoba Anyika, Media and Publicity Anchor for WDD 2026 and Vice President, Sectors, WEOG, who coordinated the media and publicity engagement.

Members of the WEOG Lagos State Chapter were also present in support of the awareness campaign.

A special highlight of the engagement was the presence of Mr. Desmond Majekodunmi, owner of Lufasi Nature Park and a renowned environmentalist and conservationist. His presence and support further underscored the strong connection between environmental conservation and the decarbonization agenda.

Mr. Majekodunmi was also a speaker at the 2025 World Decarbonization Day Summit, making his continued support for the initiative particularly significant as WEOG prepares for the 2026 edition.

The choice of Lufasi Nature Park for the media engagement provided a fitting environmental backdrop for the campaign, reinforcing the connection between conservation, sustainability and the broader global decarbonization agenda.

The WDD 2026 team emphasised that decarbonization is a collective responsibility requiring collaboration among government, industry, academia, professionals, businesses, communities, young people, innovators and other stakeholders.

The team therefore called on policymakers, energy and oil and gas professionals, businesses, environmental advocates, academia, civil society organisations, young people and the media to participate actively in World Decarbonization Day 2026.

As the countdown continues to September 3, WEOG is encouraging stakeholders to move from conversation to action by embracing innovative and sustainable solutions capable of supporting Nigeria’s transition towards a cleaner and more resilient future.
